MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- About 200 friends and colleagues attended the retirement dinner for Scotch Plains Police Chief Brian Mahoney on Friday, March 11 at the Maplewood Country Club.
Mahoney, a 30-year veteran of the SPPD, announced his intention to retire in the fall of 2015. He first joined the force in 1987, worked his way up the ranks and was appointed chief in 2005.
In 2012, Mahoney worked with Fanwood’s police chief Richard Trigo to develop a plan to merge the Scotch Plains and Fanwood forces, but the deal never came to fruition. More recently, in 2015, Mahoney oversaw the implementation of body cams on Scotch Plains police patrolmen.
“What’s been found around the country is the implementation of body camera programs, we find that it leads to greater accountability and transparency interaction with the public,” Mahoney said at the launch.
Captain Ted Conley now oversees the operations of the Scotch Plains police department.
