SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Hans Hofler, owner of Marion Jewelers on Park Ave. in Scotch Plains and member of the Scotch Plains Business & Professional Association (SPBPA), passed away earlier this week after a battle with cancer.

Hofler and his wife, Gertrude, emigrated from Austria in 1986 and began working in the jewelry business, first for another company. After working in Fanwood for 13 years, they opened Marion Jewelers & Co. in 2006. He was an expert at engraving, watch restoration and jewelry repair. (The business was profiled in TAP into SPF in 2012.)

"We lost a dear friend of our business community here in Scotch Plains," said Jeffrey Stein, a fellow member of the SPBPA. "I will miss Hans' big smile, his never-ending stories, and the laughs we had shared over the years."

"He had a great Austrian accent and the store was always so nicely decorated," said June Mooney, a Fanwood resident. "I am so sorry to hear this."
