WESTFIELD, NJ -- The Holy Trinity junior varsity basketball teams finished their seasons with championship titles in both the Morris Catholic League and the Union County CYO League.

This was the first year that Holy Trinity School played in the Morris Catholic League. During the playoffs, the Holy Trinity 5th/6th grade girls basketball team defeated St. Elizabeth 18 to 13 and St. Vincent Martyr 37 to 30. The team ended their 11-game winning streak with a championship win over Saint Patrick’s 32 to 25. 

The Holy Trinity 6th grade boys also won the Morris Catholic League this season. The journey to the finals included wins against St. Rose of Lima and St. Joseph. In the final game against St. Pius, Holy Trinity prevailed 45 to 43 to clinch the title.

The boys’ team also won the Union County CYO Championship title with a tough semifinal match against St. Helens of Westfield. The team won the final game against St. Joseph’s in Maplewood 43 to 41.

The girls were coached this year by Steve Costalos and Steve Zuretti while the boys were coached by Tim Dursee and Joe DeCicco.

Since 1916, Holy Trinity School has provided a quality Catholic education to Westfield and the surrounding communities. A 2011 National Blue Ribbon and a Middle States accredited school, its mission is to educate students to actualize their full, individual potential both spiritually and academically.
