SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- As we approach Memorial Day Weeked (May 27-27), the Township of Scotch Plains and the Borough of Fanwood are again honoring local service men and women (veterans and active duty) by placing Hometown Heroes banners along the lampposts on Park Ave., Martine Ave., Front Street, South Ave., and other streets.

The program was first launched prior to Veterans Day 2018 and proved to be quite popular among the veterans, their families, and residents in general. The Hometown Heroes banner program is sponsored by St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, in partnership with American Legion Post 209 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10122.

Each banner includes the name, photograph, branch of service, and the years of service of each veteran. The banners honor individuals who served in the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, Merchant Marines, and Women Air Force Service Pilots (World War II).
