MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ -- Imagine, a Center for Coping with Loss is pleased to announce Alan Lieber, President of Overlook Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, has joined the Imagine Leadership Council, comprised of business and community leaders, both locally and nationally, who are willing to serve as passionate advocates on behalf of grieving children and teens.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alan to the Council because of his leadership in healthcare and commitment to families coping with illness and death,” said Stuart Arnold, Imagine Board Chair. “We look forward to working with him and the other Council members on ensuring no child grieves alone and normalizing grief, death, and dying in our society."

Mr. Lieber has served as the senior official of Overlook since July 2003. In that time, Overlook has become a
regional medical center with a strong connection to the communities it serves, and a recognized leader in
innovative patient care with exemplary clinical outcomes. Overlook has been recognized for quality by U.S.
News & World Report as a Best Regional Hospital, by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals as well as a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence, and has been awarded for patient safety by
Healthgrades and the Leapfrog Group. Its nationally-recognized tertiary services, including Neuroscience,
Bariatric Surgery, Oncology, Rheumatology and Digestive Diseases, have made Overlook a referral destination
for physicians throughout New Jersey. Overlook has also stood out for its attention to families and caregivers,
through initiatives like its renowned palliative care program and the Glasser Caregivers Center.

Overlook and Imagine have collaborated throughout the past several years, with the hospital often referring
bereaved children and families to Imagine’s extraordinary resources. Overlook and Imagine are currently
partnering for the Talk About The Elephant (TATE) Conversation Project, a program initiated by Lieber, which
will seek to encourage people to broach conversations about end-of-life issues. The name of the project was
inspired by a trip to Imagine where murals of elephants  are in each room and hallway as a reminder that at Imagine it’s okay and encouraged to talk about the elephant in the room. “By working together with Imagine, I have seen, first-hand, how important Imagine’s compassionate work is to grieving families in our communities,” Lieber said. “I am humbled to be able to take a more active role in improving the lives of these young people.”

Imagine is a free year-round peer grief support center located in Mountainside, New Jersey and serving all of
Union County and beyond. Imagine serves children, young adults and parents/guardians who have had a parent,
sibling or child die. Support groups for caregivers of an adult or child in the family living with a life-altering
physical illness are also available. If you are interested in learning more about Imagine please visit our website
