Dear Editor:

Today we celebrate Independence Day, our nation's 239th birthday. As we gather to celebrate this festive and joyous day with family and friends let us be reminded of the great contributions and sacrifices so many have made to make America the great country it is.

Let us take time to reflect on the remarkable doctrines our forefathers had written for the citizens of the newly declared independent nation to follow. The Declaration of Independence, and The Constitution continue to serve to make our democracy the model for all others who seek liberty, and freedom, through a government lead by and for the people.

Those extraordinary documents were a promise and a commitment to the people, they stand today as valued as ever, engrained in our consciousness, serving to guide our way of life. What a remarkable achievement they are, and what an amazing country we live in.

Have a Happy 4th of July. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Best regards,

Kevin Glover
Mayor of The Township of Scotch Plains

Personally, I don’t think that we have any apologies to make for this phenomenon.
