SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — The JCC of Central Jersey will host its second annual free “Touch a Truck” event Sunday, May 21 from 1:00 p.m., rain or shine.
Children will enjoy the chance to get up close and explore all the trucks and vehicles they love watching from afar. A special "hold the horn" hour from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. will be held for children with special needs and those with auditory sensitivity issue, with no horns, music or sirens during that time.
The event will feature a wide range of vehicles, including police vehicles from the Scotch Plains Police Department; a fire truck from the Scotch Plains Fire Department; a Scotch Plains Department of Public Works truck; a Scotch Plains Rescue Squad ambulance; a Union County Police Department bomb truck; a Durham School Services school bus; a mobile veterinary truck from 4 Paws Veterinary Services; a tractor, dump truck and bulldozer from Messercola Excavating Company; a moving truck from White Glove Moving and Storage; a luxury vehicle from Brooklyn Motors and more.
In addition to this hands-on experience, the JCC's Camp Yachad will add to the fun with bounce houses, face painting and a brand new rock climbing wall on the campsite. Food will be available for purchase.
Event sponsors include Durham School Services, Greater MetroWest Able/Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Tiffany Pharmacy, Investors Bank, Jill Horowitz Rome of Coldwell Banker, Signature Creations/Deli King of Linden, PM Pediatrics, Newmark Education, NJY Camps, The Therapy Garage, Gwendolyn Cononico of Valic Financial Advisors, Special Tee Promos, TEKI, CFS Investment Advisory Service, Preschool of Rock, Westfield Pediatrics, R.A.C. “PM Pediatrics chose to partner with the JCC of CNJ because of our shared focus on the care of children and their families. The Touch-a-Truck event allows us to meet local families and let them know about the specialized urgent care services we can provide to their children while we support our community and help make this great event free.”
Rachel Karp of Scotch Plains attended last year’s Touch a Truck event with her family.
“What an amazing family day,” Karp said. “The kids had a blast climbing on and learning about all the different vehicles. The coordinators of this event did a fantastic job getting a variety of trucks to touch. We will be back this year – wouldn’t miss it.”
The JCC is located at 1391 Martine Avenue. Offsite parking and shuttle service will be available at the Union County Vocational Technical School campus at 1776 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains. Visit www.jccnj.org for full details on the afternoon's events. The JCC of Central New Jersey is a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, United Way of Greater Union County and the Westfield United Fund.
