Adam Glod won for his volleyball prowess this week and also was the Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week for his hockey exploits on Jan. 19.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Senior Adam Glod brought the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School volleyball team to great heights in just its first year as a varsity sport. The Union County Conference this week named him Player of the Year for his performance, while Coach Brock Hor lauded his leadership. For his efforts all season, Glod earns this week's Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week. He is one of the few athletes to win the award in two different sports (volleyball and hockey).

With 594 assists, 13 aces, 82 digs, 38 blocks, and 21 kills, Adam was the Raiders' MVP this season. Coach Brock Hor called him, "the player we trusted with running our team on the court."

"Adam put together one of the more complete seasons for a setter that I have seen," Coach Hor said. "From the obvious setting, he also recorded a respectable amount of defensive stats in his digs and blocks. His 21 kills always came at a time where we needed a side out to break the other teams momentum, or near the end of a match do put the end of the game in our hands."

For example, in the Union County Championship match, Summit had just fought back to get within two points in a 23-21, after they scored two unanswered points. The next point Adam quickly threw down a dump shot that Summit was late in seeing and thereby led the Raiders to the championship point.

"Adam's selection as Union County Player of the Year was a three-year journey from an incoming sophomore that wanted to learn how to play volleyball to the senior leader he has become," Coach Hor explained. "Adam would always listen to learn how to be a better setter, leader, and person. It could be the after game talks he would have with his father, to the pregame discussion and pep talks he would do with his teammates. He was always looking to be better, but also one that lived in the moment of what the team accomplished."

The coach added that when the team did lose, he was the first to be positive in saying that there will always be another struggle and that the team would overcome it. He also described Glod as a "very smart, approachable captain, where other players were not afraid to talk to him about the game."

"He played through sickness in the middle of the season, where most players would opt out of playing," Coach Hor said. "He told me once during this time, that he would have to be dead to get him off the court for this team."
