SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ  -- In Scotch Plains-Fanwood's highly anticipated season opener, junior running back Shawn Martin carried much of the offensive load by scoring two touchdowns of over 50 yards each for a total of 185 yards on the ground. Martin's performance electrified the crowd and helped put the Raiders ahead by 21 points in their opening game of the season on Satuday, Sept. 7.

Martin also played defensive back and returned kicks on special teams. For his exceptional performance in trying to get the football program off to a winning start, he earns recognition as the first Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week for the 2019-2020 school year.

"Shawn had almomst 200 yards rushing. He is a dynamic back and really showed it today," Scotch Plains-Fanwood's new varsity coach Austin Holman told TAPintoSPF on Saturday. "He put on a display when we needed him. He doesn't say a lot, but he's a quiet leader on this team. I expect him to have a great season for us."
