Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week: SPFHS Varsity Volleyball Team

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys varsity volleyball team, Union County Champions, are this week's Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week.

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD — In just one year, Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s boys varsity volleyball team went from the embryo stage to County champions. For winning the Union County title and the program's overall success this season, the team has been selected as the Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys volleyball team continued its magical first season as a varsity sport by winning the Union County championship over Summit, 2-1, at Union High School on Thursday evening. After dropping the first set, the Raiders responded by taking the next two, and brought home the victory. Currently, the boys have a surprising 19-3 record, which includes winning the Hackensack Volleyball Tournament on April 17.

"I consider this as one of the goals we had set for ourselves three years ago when Gabe Sta Rosa, who graduated last year, and his father Ron Sta Rosa started this program," said SPFHS volleyball head coach Brock Hor. "We started with 15 boys who were brave enough to try out a new sport they only heard of, put in the hard work developing in the last two years, to come to this point."

"I’ve always told my players, that I do all my best coaching during practices, not at games. Having them understand the game, what their jobs are to do on the court, and relying on each other during matches happens before they set foot on the court for the match," Hor added. "I can’t play the game for them; I can’t make them do anything they don’t believe they can do."

June 13, 2018

WESTFIELD, NJ — It likely started with a smoldering cigarette, according to Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Tiller.

What Are The Warning Signs of Suicide

June 17, 2018

Dear Editor:

I am saddened and angered at the violence that took place at Art All Night (in Trenton) early this morning, and I am praying for all of the families involved, but, as I’ve said before, that’s not enough. After every shooting, we talk about motive, mental illness and every other distraction from the real problem — guns.

New Jersey has some of the strongest gun ...
