Are you staying near home for the holiday week? We asked our Keller Williams local experts to name their favorite spots to visit in our towns in the summertime. Here are some of our top picks:

Ponderosa Farm Park in Scotch Plains, located at 1600 Cooper Road. This sprinkler park and playground is the perfect place to cool the kids down on a hot day. And, of course, it's free! Even without the spray fountains, the playground equipment is plentiful and really fun all year long. This 23 acre park also includes walking trails, playing fields, a picnic area, restrooms and a good sized parking lot. Fun fact: before the property was purchased by the county, Ponderosa Farm was the largest remaining farm in Union County.”

“A feature I enjoy tremendously in Westfield is the alfresco dining during the warm weather months. I love the atmosphere that it provides in the town while enjoying the local restaurants. At 16 Prospect, Chris and Tim Boyle provide an inviting gathering space in a great location to enjoy live music nightly, seasonal dishes with their own signature stamp, and incredible martini menu with fresh juice. My food favorites are Garden Pizza, Bistro Burger, and anything seafood!”

Downtown Fanwood is such an adorable little town and has many great eateries from breakfast to dinner and dessert in between. One stands out in particular, Mara's Café. It is a community hub for great food, coffee, artisan gelato, live music every Thursday in the summer and an award winning bakery. Owned by Inroads to Opportunities, a community rehabilitation center that provides employment and mental health services to adults with disabilities. Mara's Fanwood is making food for good.”

“Fun events near Historic Fanwood Train Station & La Grande Park!  Numerous summer joint events with local businesses including Tuesday's family free movie night, and an upcoming exciting event Sunday July 9th, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with live music and a classic car show!”

“Not only in the summertime, but all year round, my favorite place to go in downtown Westfield is Ono Bowls on Quimby Street. It's a juice house servicing raw, pure, healthy, superfood juices, smoothies, acai, pitaya and ono bowls. I always enjoy the delicious & nutritious ono bowls (my personal favorite: the Ginger Wild) and leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.  Treat yourself.  Take a break from your hectic day.  The calming atmosphere makes it feel like a mini-vacation!  You'll be glad you did.”

“Thursday Nights at Mindowaskin Park sitting around the Gazebo and listening to the sounds of Westfield Community Band Concert Series after enjoying dinner and dessert at one of the many fine restaurants  in Town. A beautiful setting with a Fountain in the center of the lake, lush green foliage and flowering Plants. A true mainstay of Westfield. According to the History of the Town, four Native American Indians of the Lenni-Lenape tribe of the Algonquin Nation lived here and in 1684 became Westfield. One of those Native Americans was named Mindowaskin, and the park is named after him.”
