SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Play Theater, a musical theater program that provides classes and performance opportunities for local children, will present “Cats” on Jan. 28 at 4:30 p.m. and Jan. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church (559 Park Ave..) Scotch Plains. The cast and crew is comprised of 46 local children ages 6-13. Admission is free.

Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic musical tells the story of the Jellicle cats and each cat's individual quest to be selected as the lucky one who will ascend to "the Heaviside Layer” and come back to a new life.  “Cats” is the 4th longest running show in Broadway history playing from 1982-2000.  The current Broadway revival opened on July 16, 2016 and continues today.

This Play Theater program is sponsored by the Scotch Plains Recreation Dept. and run by Amy Fiore, a Scotch Plains mom of two girls, who has enjoyed a life-long passion for musical theater. She studied and engaged in performance from a young age and continually sought ways to immerse herself in all aspects of theater arts. Amy holds a BFA from Syracuse University in Musical Theater Performance with a minor in Education, and has taught theater, acting and arts administration to children and adults in many places, including Camp Harmony, West Orange Theater Under the Stars, Baruch College and NYU. For nearly two decades Amy has been an arts administrator and was inspired to bring her skills to the Scotch Plains community after working with local kids while directing in the McGinn Elementary School variety show since 2012.

New this spring, Play Theater will offer a Musical Theater Mommy & Me class and a vacation day camp at the JCC of Central NJ this spring, and at the Union County Performing Arts Center will be "Improv for Teens and Tweens" and an advanced “Musical Theater Cabaret” program by audition only.  For more information, visit www.playtheaternj.com and like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/playtheaternj

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
