Fanwood, NJ - Mara’s Café & Bakery, a casual, family-friendly café, has opened a new franchise cafe across the street from the Fanwood train station at 250 South Avenue. Owner and franchise operator, Marci Semel of Fanwood, is proud to announce the official grand opening on Saturday, June 22nd. The celebration will feature Mara and Glenn Magley, Co-Founders of Mara’s Café & Bakery, alongside Colleen Mahr, Mayor of Fanwood and Fanwood franchisees Marci and Mark Semel to perform the ribbon cutting ceremony at 11am.

Grand opening festivities on June 22nd at the Mara’s Fanwood cafe will include lots of family friendly entertainment, live music throughout the day, and meet and greet with Mara and Glenn, the “mom and pop” of Mara’s. Free samples of Mara’s fresh roasted coffee, award winning desserts and handcrafted gelato will be offered during the café’s operating hours, 7am-11pm. In addition, guests are invited to enter a free raffle to win one of these great prizes; FREE Mara’s coffee for a month, FREE whole cake or pie, FREE dinner and dessert for four or become Mara’s guest designer of a fall special.

Mara’s Café & Bakery has been recognized regionally and in New Jersey as the Best Coffeehouse, and has won numerous awards for its cheesecake, gelato, cupcakes, cannoli, sandwiches and more. The franchise will serve delectable desserts along with on-site fresh roasted coffee and full breakfast, lunch and dinner meals in a bright, relaxing atmosphere. Indoor and patio seating are plentiful, perfect for long summer days and nights.

“We are pleased to have Marci on our team,” said Ian Magley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mara’s Franchise Systems, LLC. “Her enthusiasm and focus on providing a great customer experience makes her a perfect franchisee to help us expand our franchise network and to Make Every Day Delicious in Fanwood, NJ.”

“I am thrilled to become a part of the Mara’s family,” said Marci Semel.  “To me, the Mara’s brand represents great award-winning products served in a comfortable environment.  I have enjoyed being a customer of Mara’s Café & Bakery in Denville, and am excited to bring Mara’s to my home community.  Our location is an ideal place for commuters, local employees and families to gather, or just get their coffee and meals on the go. I am especially looking forward to bringing the freshest coffee to town with Mara’s on-site coffee roaster.”

Mara’s was established in 1984 when Mara and Glenn Magley created a line of desserts and coffee products for the wholesale market.  In 2004, the first Mara’s Café & Bakery was opened in Denville, NJ and the product lines expanded to include soups, sandwiches, salads, quiches and handcrafted gelato. The menu has grown to include seasonal specials and freshly roasted coffee beans. All meals are made fresh to order for dine-in, pick-up and catering.

“For over a quarter century, our motto has been to offer a customer experience we would expect for ourselves. We look forward to expanding our customer base in the Fanwood market,” said Mara Magley, Co-Founder and Vice President, Franchisee Support.

The franchise program, developed with the help of the Chicago based iFranchise Group and the Philadelphia based law firm of Fisher Zucker, LLC, will start with Fanwood and be followed by additional openings in New York and New Jersey over the next year. “Mara’s Café & Bakery could easily expand nationally in a few years,” according to Ian. “Our goal is to ensure the success of each franchisee. Therefore, we plan to take a conservative approach to expansion.”

“We believe we have the right products, services, and philosophy to sustain our expansion goals,” concludes Ian Magley. “As we grow through the addition of more franchises, we expect that our market position will only become stronger."

Karl Marx may have been the pioneer, but many other Jews were also involved in the struggle for communism, particularly in the early days of the Russian revolution.
