SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Less than a week after being seized by the New Jersey Division of Taxation, Maria’s Restaurant & Pizzeria on Park Avenue reopened for business on Wednesday.
According to owner Mike Reyhan, the business paid the required fees to avoid a cease in operation and happily rejoined the neighborhood.
“Taxation closed me down but they got their check now,” Reyhan said. “A lot of customers came in today, more than I was expecting.”
An outpouring of support came through Facebook, the owner said, where loyal customers assured the community that Maria’s would be back soon.
Sandwiched between the storefronts along Park Avenue with only a rear entrance, Maria’s will continue serving downtown Scotch Plains after a short “vacation."
