FANWOOD, NJ -- Mayor Colleen Mahr was applauded as a person of respect and honor at the Dhammakaya Meditation Center in Fanwood as part of the center's Chinese New Year celebration last week. She was presented with a gift basket at a ceremony, because she is a person who "promotes peace and respect," said Pat Inlarp of the Dhammakaya Meditation Center.

Dhammakaya International Meditation Center (257 Midway Ave. in Fanwood) began in 1998 to help people learn to journey inward to find true happiness. It promotes meditation and spiritual awareness. In September 2015, the center opened its meditation garden to the public.
