When I ran for office last year, the second point of my Five-Point Plan was downtown redevelopment. If you have been watching the Township Council meetings or reading various news outlets, you know the Council has made good progress on downtown redevelopment.
Specifically, the Township Council established a Scotch Plains Downtown Redevelopment Committee in March and in May directed the Planning Board to conduct a study for the Phase I Area which incorporates a large section of Park Avenue. Phase I is the first phase of a 7-phase process for downtown redevelopment.
An important downtown redevelopment event is happening on Wednesday, July 19, at the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. The Downtown Redevelopment Committee is hosting a town hall meeting to provide the background on the redevelopment process to date, and to brief the property owners and business owners in the Phase I Area as to what the Phase I study means to them. This is an open public meeting and residents are encouraged to attend as well.
The town hall presentation will provide an overview of the Downtown Redevelopment Committee and how you can participate. So, if you are interested in or have questions about downtown redevelopment, please attend.

Hope to see you Wednesday.
Mayor Al Smith
