SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Tom Strowe, a lifelong Scotch Plains resident, was hired in August 2017 to serve as the Township’s Project Coordinator for Redevelopment. He is tasked with helping to coordinate and lead some of the Township’s redevelopment efforts.

Strowe will support the Scotch Plains Downtown Redevelopment Committee; assist the Township Planner, Attorney, Planning Board, and Township Council with information and analysis; prepare reports and conduct surveys; and interface with landlords, business owners, and developers/investors.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of my hometown as their Project Coordinator for Redevelopment,” said Strowe. “I am eager to work to make a positive contribution to downtown redevelopment and to work with Township Manager Mirabella, Mayor Smith, the Township Council, the Scotch Plains Downtown Redevelopment Committee, and all the dedicated township employees and professionals who serve our community well.”

Township Manager Al Mirabella remarked on Tom’s hiring: “I am very excited to have Tom join the team in Scotch Plains. Tom brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and he will be very helpful in redevelopment efforts.”

“I am bringing my passion, energy, and commitment to public service to the Township of Scotch Plains,” added Strowe, a 2010 graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS. “Good leaders can’t lead without listening, so I welcome and encourage residents and business owners to share their ideas, comments, and concerns about downtown redevelopment with me."

"On a topic as important as downtown redevelopment our residents and business owners should make their voices heard, and I will always make time to hear from and work with them,” Strowe said.

Before working for the Township, Strowe served for three years as a legislative assistant in the NJ General Assembly, where he gained experience with government entities and knowledge in the areas of research and analysis, communication, constituent services, and public relations.

Tom Strowe graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014 with a degree in political science and economics. At FDU, he was a member of the National Political Science Honor Society and was also inducted into Phi Omega Epsilon for his high standards of scholarship, service, and character. He completed his graduation requirements at the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars as intern in the U.S. House of Representatives.

After every shooting, we talk about motive, mental illness and every other distraction from the real problem — guns.
