Dear Editor:

For the first time since its inception, the annual Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day concert will take place in Scotch Plains this coming Sunday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Alan Augustine Park, adjacent to Township Hall on Park Avenue.

On behalf of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Committee, I want to take this opportunity to invite residents of both communities to join us in what has become a very moving part of our Memorial Day remembrances, and a wonderful prelude to our annual Memorial Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30th.

In accordance with the words of Abraham Lincoln, who said, “Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure,” this year’s concert will be held in loving memory of Donald E. Wussler of Scotch Plains, a Korean War veteran and Purple Heart Recipient.

The program is sponsored by private donations from local businesses and individuals, and will feature patriotic songs performed by the Westfield Community Band.

Although the Memorial Day concert is only in its fifth year, it has become an important venue where we can gather as a community to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives to protect the ideals that have made our nation so great and that we all cherish.  So please join us in honoring and remembering our fallen heroes, and in keeping their spirit alive and burning brightly in our hearts.

Kevin Glover
Mayor
The Township of Scotch Plains

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...
