Middle School Cross-Country Opens With a Win vs. Union

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA runs the middle school cross-country program for athletes from both Terrill and Park Middle Schools 

The first middle school cross country meet of the season took place at Terrill Middle School against Union Middle School on October 6. The 1.5 mile course took the athletes through various terrain including large hills and various twists and turns along the field. Scotch Plains-Fanwood came out victorious as a team and claimed first place finishes in both the girls and boys races (Alexa Fazio and Ryan Matulonis). All the athletes did a great job and really gave their all in the first meet of the season!

WESTFIELD, NJ — Around 7:00 a.m. Sunday, a stolen car left the roadway and crashed on the 1200 block of Central Avenue, according to Westfield Police Chief David Wayman. Four males exited the vehicle and fled on foot, he said.

Sofia Alves scored for Union Catholic when the Vikings tied Brearley 1-1 on Monday in a girls soccer game in Scotch Plains.

After a scoreless opening half, Alves, a sophomore, put Union Catholic ahead 1-0 at the 60 minute mark when she scored her second goal of the season off a corner kick from Olivia Yarem. Goalie Izzy DiDario finished with game with six saves for Union Catholic.
