National Night Out to Raise Crime Prevention Awareness

The Scotch Plains and Fanwood Police Departments are ready to show that they care for ending crime as part of the 30th Annual National Night Out taking place across the country. SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD NJ – The Scotch Plains and Fanwood Police Departments will be hosting celebrations in honor of the 30th Annual National Night Out in Scotch Plains and Fanwood on Tuesday August 6th from 6:00PM-9:00PM at the Village Green in Scotch Plains and from 6:30PM-8:30PM at LaGrande Park in Fanwood.

The purpose of National Night Out is for the USA to raise awareness of  crime and drug prevention, increase community spirit and police community partnerships and to build up support for and participation in local anti-crime programs.

In Scotch Plains, demonstrations from the Scotch Plains Police Department's K-9 unit, SPPD officers assigned to the UC SWAT Team and Motorcycle Unit and Patrol car will be held. The demonstrations will help the police department make people learn to be further aware of crimes and to let criminals know that the neighborhoods are prepared and ready to fight back against them.

Family fun activities like a Vertical Rush obstacle course and Pirate Funhouse, refreshments like hotdogs and cotton candy, and a concert from the Scotch Plains based band, The Broadcasters will also happen in Scotch Plains.

Fanwood's celebration will include similar activities, plus many more  like games, raffles, and facepainting. The film Oz the Great and Powerful (rated PG) will also play at 8:00PM as part of LaGrande Park's Free Movies in the Park events.
