New Drama Program at Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The critically acclaimed New Jersey Youth Theatre (NJYT) and the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA have announced they are working together to produce a new 2012-2013 Drama Program.

NJYT has produced theatrical production at the New Jersey Performing art Centre, the Algonquin Arts, and for NJN Public Television (Channel 13).  They have trained students o achieve the highest standards in drama and musical theatre with credentialed, professional teaching artists.

The company has produced theatrical productions at the New Jersey Performing
Arts Center and Algonquin Arts. In 2007, NJN Public Television (Channel 13)
broadcast "Learning Curve, State of the Arts," documenting the making of
NJYT's all-youth production "Carousel." NJYT's has trained students to
achieve the highest standards in drama and musical theatre with
credentialed, professional teaching artists.

The classes being held at the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA include
Theatre Games for Kids, which is recommended for children age 6 through 8.  These
unique and fun classes introduce young students to the world of theatre and
drama through playful improvisation, movement, vocal work and classic
storytelling techniques.

The next class, aimed at older children, is  Drama: The art and technique of acting. This
classes focus on basic skills, losing inhibitions, technique and the
building of confidence for a performer.

The final class is Musical Theater, which focuses on
song selection, presentation and interpretation for audition and
performance; ensemble work; voice technique/projection; musical theatre
movement and dance.

Cynthia Meryl (Acting, Musical Theatre, and Voice) is the Artistic Director
and Master Teacher for NJYT's School for the Performing Arts. A professional
theatre arts educator for forty years, she works with all age groups,
teaching acting and musical theatre classes.  She also provides training and
coaching in voice. Ms. Meryl is also Stage Director of NJYT's professional
productions at NJPAC and other professional theatres in New Jersey and was selected by the Star Ledger as "making a difference in the arts" in New Jersey.

Registration is going on now for all Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA fall
programs at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains facility.  Please call the Member
