FANWOOD, NJ -- New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 3,400 feet of aging 24-inch cast iron water main that was installed in 1930 with new 30-inch ductile iron main along North Avenue (from Sheelan’s Crossing to Morse Avenue) in Fanwood. The project represents more than a $2 million investment in replacing aging infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life.

"By proactively upgrading aging infrastructure, we are continuing our commitment to ensuring quality and service for our customers,” stated Mike Bange, manager Field Operations. “New Jersey American Water customers in Fanwood should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, and continued improvement in reliability."

During construction, sections of street may be closed in the course of work hours. New Jersey American Water’s contractor J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, will begin work on or about Monday, July 31. Work hours will be as follows:

  • July 31 – August 4: 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (at night), Monday through Friday
  • August 7 onward: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

All traffic control will be coordinated by local police. New Jersey American Water is committed to the safety of its employees and advises pedestrians and drivers to please take caution in the vicinity of work sites. Weather permitting, the work should be completed by the end of September. Final street restoration will be completed in the fall of 2017.

At various segments of the project, customers may experience temporary service interruptions while the work is performed. Customers may also experience a slight discoloration of water. If this happens, run the water until it is clear. Residents with questions may call the Customer Service Center at 800-272-1325.
