CLARK, NJ – After several years of negotiation, a planned sale of Bernie’s Westbrant Auto Parts and Repairs has fallen through, giving the 67-year Clark business a new lease on life. Owner Robert Gittleman plans to reinvigorate the business, which has provided exceptional automotive repair services to the community since his father founded the business in 1952.
“Unexpected changes by the planned purchaser means that the new CVS will not be built,” Gittleman said.
The Clark Planning Board had approved a redevelopment plan that included the construction of a new CVS pharmacy in January, 2018. Gittleman is quick to thank Clark township officials for their assistance throughout the project.
“I’m excited by the opportunity to reinvent my business,” Gittleman said. “I’ll be adding experienced and enthusiastic staff members to our team, restocking my shelves, and rededicating myself to a job, business and community I love. Retirement can wait!”
Gittleman will expand the parts store’s do-it-yourself inventory to include quality automotive oils, cleaning products, wiper blades and more. The store sells a complete line of Michelin, BF Goodrich and Uniroyal tires, as well as AAA and Interstate batteries.
“We’ve been so fortunate that our automotive repair professionals stayed with us through the potential transition,” Gittleman said. “They’ve maintained the integrity and superiority of our repair center, continuing their education and providing the customer service that our dedicated Bernie’s customers have grown to expect.”
Bernie’s service center uses state-of-the art diagnostic equipment to provide quality, targeted repairs on all makes and models – foreign and domestic – cars and trucks. Gittleman said he is making a significant investment in upgrading diagnostic software and hardware to even more accurately diagnose today’s more complicated vehicles. In addition, the repair center is AAA certified, offering patrons all of the motor club’s features and discounts.
Bernie’s Westbrant Auto Parts and Repairs is located at 241 Westfield Avenue in Clark, at the intersection of Brant Avenue. The high-visibility location right off the Garden State Parkway, is easily accessible to customers in nearby towns.
“I’ve been so touched over the last several years as our valued customers wished me well on my retirement,” Gittleman said. “But my staff and I are not going anywhere. We are as dedicated as we have ever been to providing the utmost in customer service and quality, value-driven repairs.”
Gittleman calls his iconic Clark business a “dealer alternative” that provides dealership-quality workmanship at independent retailer prices.
Both returning and new customers are enthusiastically welcome to stop in for an update, a tour, a cup of coffee and a friendly conversation with a man dedicated to continuing the traditions begun by his father, the original Bernie, in 1952.
“’Established 1952, reestablished 2019’” is my new motto,” Gittleman said. “And I STILL want to be your mechanic.”
