Nick’s Second Annual Christmas Benefit

FANWOOD, NJ – Paul Watterson and his wife Jessica, owners of Nick’s Pizza and Deli in Fanwood, started a tradition last year when they sponsored a Christmas benefit for a women’s shelter in Elizabeth.

“Last year was great, we gave a few families a chance to have a dinner out and with donations from the community we were able to provide much needed toys and clothes,” Paul Watterson said.

However, this year the Fanwood business community is coming to the forefront to help with making the Christmas benefit even larger and more memorable.

“BeCraftful are providing handmade ornaments for the Giving Tree, Mara’s is providing free cupcakes and the Hallmark store is providing bags of candy,” said Watterson.

Members of the community who want to help can come into Nick’s and take an ornament from the Giving Tree, which will have a description of a child and what their wish is for Christmas. “Just bring the toy mentioned back to us, unwrapped, and we will take care of the wrapping,” said Watterson.

While toys are foremost in the minds of children, clothing and shoes are also a great need, so the Wattersons are asking for donations of gift cards from major department stores as well.

“The child can have the joy of opening a present that they want, but the parent can have the peace of mind of knowing they can now afford to get that child clothing and shoes,” said Watterson.

Time is of the essence, as the holiday dinner is set for Dec. 10, which means all donations must come into Nick’s by Dec. 8.

“Please call us with any questions at (908) 322-8800, or stop by the shop at 42 South Martine Ave. in Fanwood,” Watterson said.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
