SAYREVILLE, NJ -- The Pathways to Adult Living (PAL) program, designed to ensure a successful transition to independent living for 18 – 21 year-old students with disabilities who have completed their high school academic requirements, will hold an Open House from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31 at the program’s renovated storefront at 95 Main Street in Sayreville.

An initiative of the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ), the PAL program features individual and group vocational training opportunities for students in preparation for future employment. Additionally, given the Sayreville storefront’s close proximity to the New Jersey Transit bus line, participants will have numerous opportunities to gain competence understanding schedules, purchasing tickets, traveling to different locations, and using other public transportation options.

Supervised by state certified Structured Learning Experience (SLE) staff, the program also offers social skill building, including reinforcement of appropriate public behavior, and strengthening conflict resolution skills.

The PAL students will meet daily at the Sayreville storefront, where they will focus on additional independent living skills including meal preparation, house cleaning, minor repair work, and safe use of household equipment and appliances.

The ESCNJ also offers PAL students and their families support when interacting with adult service providers including the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the Division of Developmental Disabilities, and the Social Security Administration.

For further information about the PAL program, please contact Supervisor Raissa Prus, M.A., SLE/C at 732-777-9848, Ext. 6690;, or Assistant Superintendent Mr. Gary Molenaar at 732-777-9848, Ext. 5010;

The ESCNJ operates six schools in Middlesex County for student’s ages 3-21 with autism, multiple disabilities, and at-risk behaviors, and provides special education services to school districts statewide. The largest Educational Services Commission in the state, the ESCNJ coordinates transportation services for over 10,000 students statewide, and manages a Co-op Pricing System with over 1,000 members, the largest cooperative buying program in New Jersey.
