Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens to Kick-Off Summer Concert Series in Scotch Plains

Pat DiNizio is the founder, principal songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist for the platinum recording artists The Smithereens and a solo performer, as well.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Summer Concert Series on the Allan Augustine Village Green (adjacent to Town Hall) will begin on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. with Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens.

A Scotch Plains native, DiNizio sang and played guitar for  The Smithereens, which he formed in 1980. In 1989, he wrote the hit song “A Girl Like You” (see video link below), which peaked at #38 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. DiNizio ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000. In 2006, he starred with other rock stars including Joan Jett in the ESPN 2  special “7th Inning Stretch Baseball Meets Rock & Roll,” which highlighted his recovery from a life-threating nervous disorder and his open tryout for the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
