Pedestrian Accident Closes Part of South Ave. in Fanwood

FANWOOD, NJ -- An accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m. closed part of South Avenue in Fanwood between Martine Ave. and Second Street.

"At approximately 6:16 tonight, we received a call from County dispatch that a person was struck by a motor vehicle and our units responded," Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo told TAPintoSPF. "A 39-year old Plainfield resident was struck in the eastbound lane of South Avenue across from the train station about 150 feet from the Martine Avenue crosswalk."

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick with lacerations to the head and foot and complaints of pain. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time, Chief Trigo reported.

A second ambulance came to tend to the driver of the vehicle, a 67-year-old female also from Plainfield.

The accident is under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
