TRENTON, NJ -- AR191, a resolution introduced by Linda Stender (D-22) opposing construction and operation of the Pilgrim Pipeline in New Jersey, has passed the Assembly State and Local Government Committee by a 3-2 vote.
The resolution cites a number of environmental, public health, and safety concerns with the project including risks to drinking water supplies, impact to the Highlands region, and the volatility of Bakken crude oil which would travel in the pipeline. The resolution also calls on regulatory agencies to conduct environmental reviews of the project and prohibit its construction in the state.
Pilgrim Pipeline LLC has proposed installing two brand new pipelines across New Jersey to carry crude oil and refined petroleum products from Albany, NY, to oil refineries in Linden. They would cut across 30 municipalities in 5 counties.
