SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- If any industry has become the symbol of the hardships caused by the coronavirus, it's the bar/restaurant industry, which has seen its revenues dwindle to a fraction of what they were just two short weeks ago.

On Tuesday, March 24, the homebound (almost all of us) due the coronavirus pandemic were asked to support local restaurants by ordering to-go as part of the "Great American Takeout." Participants were asked to post pictures of their orders on social media and use the hashtag #GreatAmericanTakeout.

Members of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community responded. Take a look at the gallery of pictures to see some of the mouth-watering dishes made to be enjoyed at home. Mayor Al Smith used his daily Facebook live post to promote the Great American Takeout.

"I had a takeout order from Max’s today. A garden salad and Tortellini in Brodo - healthful and tasty," said Mayor Smith, who continues to encourage residents to patronize Scotch Plains businesses.

Fanwood's Director of Economic Development invites residents to order food to-go and purchase gift certificates to support local businesses.

If you need a smile while stuck inside your house -- you can always go to the Florence Ravioli Facebook page and enjoy the latest post by internet sensation Laurel DeFellipo Turchin. In her most recent post, Turchin teaches us what to do with a Florence Ravioli "pizza kit."

Lastly, now is a good time to order from your favorite eateries even if they are not located in Scotch Plains and Fanwood. For instance, Mosaico Italian Restaurant has daily lunch to-go specials ($10 cash, $12 credit card).

If you haven't been to one of you favorite places in a while, support them now so that they will still be there once we are past the coronavirus crisis.

Thank you so much for your support tonight. You have no idea how much this means and we will never forget it. God bless and because of you, we will get through this together. - River and Rail Cantina
