BEDMINSTER, NJ — President Trump was over Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Thursday just as many were turning in for the night. The quiet of the evening was shattered by planes and helicopters overhead. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has classified a 30-mile radius around Somerset Airport as "National Defense Airspace" from May 4 through May 7 for President Trump's weekend visit to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

According to the notice on the FAA website, landings and takeoffs at Somerset Airport in Bedminster are restricted to approved law enforcement, military, secret service and presidential during the blackout period. The President is expected to spend the weekend at Trump National beginning Friday.

Unauthorized aircraft in certain areas near Somerset Airport are subject to heavy civil penalties. Pilots who do not adhere to the procedures set forth in the notice "may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel."

The Bedminster Airport describes the the restriction as "a temporary flight restriction will radiate 30 nm from that site and within 10 nm of the golf course there will be a 'no-fly' zone, Somerset and Solberg Airports will lie within that 10 nm zone."

During the President's visits, students of the airport's flight school may take classes at other participating airports. The airport urges pilots to check in with flight service and the FAA website.

Solberg Airport in Readington is also covered by the temporary restriction.
