SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — The QuickChek store (1928 Westfield Ave. in Scotch Plains) will close tomorrow evening, according to employees of the convenience store.
None of the Scotch Plains staff have lost their jobs. Current employees of the Scotch Plains store have been relocated to other QuickCheck stores in the area, including the one located at 572 North Ave. (near the intersection of Westfield Road) in Fanwood. The lease on the building in Scotch Plains has expired, and the corporation did not renew it.
However, the location is expected to remain a convenience store, which is good news for commuters who stop in for their morning coffee and the high school kids who invade for after school snacks around 3:00 p.m. (when school is in session). TAPintoSPF spoke with workers who were outside the building measuring it for a new sign, and QuickChek employees said that the new owners had visited on Tuesday.
The QuickChek chain of convenience stores is based in Whitehouse Station and boasts more than 150 locations in New Jersey and New York, according to the company's website. The first store opened in Dunellen in 1967, and the company is now opening 8-10 stores per year. Recently opened stores, such as the one in Cranford near exit 137, now often are gas station/convenience store combinations.
