UNION, NJ -- Despite dominating in possession time, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys soccer team could not find the back of the goal and lost to Washington Township, 1-0, in the NJSIAA Group IV finals at Kean University on Sunday, Nov. 23.

The Minutemen took the lead 14 minutes into the game on a header by Zach Burns off a corner kick and held it for the rest of the match, despite continued pressure by the Raiders. In the second half, Scotch Plains-Fanwood it appeared Jassiem Wahtuse had tied the game, but the goal was disallowed on an out of bounds infraction.

Washington Township goal keeper Travis Yates made four saves in the match. Sean Murray stopped three shots for SPFHS.
The Raiders went into the game having won14 consecutive games and not having allowed a goal in tournament play. The boys ended their season with a 22-4 record, winning the Union County title and the North Jersey 2 Group 4 sectional tournament.
Washington Township finished their championship season with a record of 26-1.  They came into the match ranked no. 3 in the country.
