DUNELLEN, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys hockey team shut out the Johnson Crusaders (Clark, NJ) 5-0 at The Rock in Dunellen, NJ on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, before a packed crowd.
Nick Cassara opened the Raiders’ scoring at 12:50 in the first period with a shot from the high slot after receiving a pass from behind the net from Jared Figueroa who had checked a Crusader defender to gain possession of the puck. Nick’s goal came in his first shift of his first game that he played as a Raider after he transferred from St Joseph’s Metuchen high school and sat out the mandatory 30 days. He is expected to bring further depth to the Raider offense which already has 3 of the Union County league’s top 5 points leaders with Davey Leong, Jared Figueroa and John Bruckman.
At 11:56 of the second period,Dustin Demarsico skated across the slot and redirected a shot from Nick Cassara  to find the back of the net to make it 2-0. John Bruckman scored with an assist from Davey Leong only 24 seconds later to widen the lead to 3-0. Johnny Scheer closed out the second period scoring on a breakaway after a move around a Crusader defender at the blue line. With 3:53 left in the third period John Bruckman scored his second goal of the game on a power play after evading both Crusader defenseman at their blue line and deeking Nicola Demarzo, who was in net for Johnson, on a breakaway.
Tim Mitchell was in net for the first 2 periods for the Raiders and had 18 saves to bring his season total to 231 saves. Mike Illanovsky played in net in the third period and maintained the Raider shutout with 2 saves during his second appearance in net this season. Nicola Demarzo had 27 saves in net for Johnson and has a season total of 217 saves.  The Raiders outshot the Crusaders 32 to 20. This win creates a three-way tie for first place between SPFHS, Dayton/Brearly and Governor Livingston in the Union County league’s B division.

The Raider’s 5-0 win over Clark was the second time this season that the Raiders topped ALJ. Their first meeting was on Dec. 22, 2014, at Warinanco rink when they outscored the Crusaders 3-2. John Bruckman, Davey Leong and Jared Figueroa each had one goal and one assist and Ian Gordon contributed an assist for the win. Tim Mitchell had 20 saves for the Raiders and Nicola Demarzo had 28 saves for Johnson. James Wagner and Matt Boho each scored and Jack Lomeli had an assist for Johnson’s effort. The Raiders outshot the Crusaders 31 to 22 in that contest.
The Raiders face off against Dayton/Brearly on Tuesday Jan. 6, 2015, at 4:45 p.m. at Warinanco and Johnson next faces off against Westfield on Jan. 6, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. in Woodbridge.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
