SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- October 5th was another busy Saturday for the Scotch Plains Fanwood Raiders marching band. During the afternoon home football game, senior members of the band were joined by their parents on the field at half-time to be recognized for their contributions to the music program.

Following the game, the band headed to MetLife Stadium to join 47 other bands in regional competition at the Yamaha Cup. The band took home a Second Place trophy in their division with an overall score of 82.760.

The marching band is directed by Durand Thomas, whose staff includes Assistant Director John Gillick and Color Guard Director Jackie Tumolo. Student Drum Majors are Joe Elkin, Emelyne Johns, and Emma O’Brien. The band's 2019 show is titled Bocetos de España (”Sketches of Spain”).

The marching band will play for the home team on Saturday afternoon and then compete in the West Orange Marching Band Invitational at 6:15 p.m.
