SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Music students from Park Middle School and Terrill Middle School were invited to join "The Biggest Band in the Land" at the Scotch Plains High School football game on Saturday against Montgomery. They were treated to a pregame performance by the Montgomery High School Marching Band as well as a half-time performance by the Scotch Plains Raiders Marching Band. During the game, the middle school students joined the Raiders Band to cheer on the football team and to play fight songs from the stands.
Following the game, the Raiders Marching Band traveled to the West Orange Marching Band Invitational where they topped the other eight competing bands with a high score of 83.750. The band won awards for Best Overall Music, Best Overall Visual, and Best Overall Band.
The Raiders Marching Band is directed by Durand Thomas. Additional band staff includes Assistant Director John Gillick and Color Guard Director Jackie Tumolo. Student Drum Majors are Joe Elkin, Emelyne Johns, and Emma O’Brien. The band's 2019 show is titled Bocetos de España (“Sketches of Spain”)
The Scotch Plains Fanwood Music Boosters invite everyone to support the district's music programs at the Pasta Night Pot Luck Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The suggested donation is $8 per person (or $5 each for families) for dinner, dessert, beverage, and musical entertainment by student ensembles.
