FANWOOD, NJ -- The Banks Family, organizers of the Rockin’ for Autism fundraiser in Fanwood on April 19, hosted a check presentation party at Sheelen's Crossing, where they presented Autism New Jersey with a check for $13,050 from the Rockin’ for Autism committee.

Last year's event brought in over $10,000. This year, the fundraiser featured a quiet room, therapy dogs, the Sheelen’s Crossing Beer Garden, and food vendors including Red, White & Que, Nick's Pizza, Rocko's Ice Cream and the soon-to-open Fanwood Grille. The vendors donated a portion of their proceeds from food sales to the cause. Additionally, more than 85 merchants contributed goods and services valued at over $13,600, which contributed to our Tricky Tray merchant raffle sales.

Rockin’ for Autism committee thanked the Caped Crusader from the DLJ Show who greeted children and adults all day. the Fanwood police and public works departments, Child’s Play Challenge Courses, which made kids happy and also donated over $1,000, and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School baseball team, which helped with the set-up of the festival.

"None of this would have been possible without Mayor Mahr and the town of Fanwood," said Mallory Banks, a Junior Autism Ambassador for 6 years and founder of the Rockin' for Autism event. "Each year, we do a little bit more and raise more money. This year was our best year ever!"

"We know that the money will help with programs and services for kids with autism and their families in the state of New Jersey. Thank you and congratulations to everyone on the committee who helped make this event possible," Banks added.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...

February 19, 2018

Dear Editor:

I’m proud to support Colleen Mahr for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee  (UCDC) and am encouraging my Scotch Plains peers to join me.

I was a first time candidate wanting to make a difference in my hometown of Scotch Plains, when Mayor Mahr of neighboring Fanwood stepped in to help me campaign and win my election to be Councilwoman three years ago.
