SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center hosted a fun and informative event, for young and old alike.  Everything from health screenings to face –painting, exercise classes, and free pizza.

Nick Tardibuono, the General Manager of RWJ – Scotch Plains, felt it was a “great turnout…  Twice a year we give back to the community through free health screenings and various open classes in conjunction with the hospital and the center… it’s free to everyone, and we get to really promote the facility and all it has to offer that’s very different from your typical gym.”

Several vendors were also present with tables showcasing their services and wares.  Greater Living Foods was there to talk to people, “RWJ is a natural fit for us to be in attendance since we are an organic and natural home delivery food service.”  Other vendors like Garden State Brickface and the window company, Renewal By Anderson, were present to meet new business prospects, “The health mission of RWJ is not that different from the preventative measures people take to maintain their homes. And, since it’s the season for home improvements, it seemed like a good place to be this weekend.” said Jeremy of RBA.

There was also face-painting, free balloon animals, and hair clips for sale along with a wide variety of fun activities like Family Zumba.

Nancy Van Ginneken, a private school special needs teacher who lives in Bergen county, joined RWJ Fitness with a trainer she still consults with her personal trainer and has since become a personal trainer herself.    Nancy commented, “I come to this gym almost every day to work out for the past 4 ½ years.  At a certain age, it’s more about maintaining optimal health and wellness rather than simply losing weight.  I met Kevin Demarest, my personal trainer, right when I joined RWJ.  He really challenged and inspired me to get fit and live healthy… Today I came to offer support and to participate in the Red Zone fitness challenge and to partake in function, movement and skills assessment screenings.”

The RWJ staff of personal trainers work with their own personal trainers and continuously take courses to learn new fitness and wellness techniques.  The hospital affiliation ensures top-notch programs at every fitness level.  For more information go to http://rwjrahwayfitness.com/

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
