FANWOOD, NJ -- Mayor Colleen Mahr kicked off the campaign for her fellow Democrats, Councilwoman Erin McElroy Barker and first-time candidate Trish Walsh Pierce, with a fundraiser held at Houdini Pizza at 25 South Ave. in Fanwood on Monday evening. 

McElroy Barker, who is finishing her first three-year term this year, said: "I felt like I could make a difference. I think Fanwood is a wonderful, kind, community-oriented place."

"I feel like that's my role on the council. As a social worker I feel like it's my job to make sure we are a kind and caring community," she added.

Walsh Pierce recalled how Mayor Mahr asked her to run on the Democratic ticket: "She called me on St. Patrick's Day and asked if I would run for Council. How was I going to say No?

Guests included local Democratic committee members from Fanwood, Garwood, and Springfield, along with Fanwood Council members Russ Huegel, Kathy Mitchell, Anthony "Coach" Carter, and Jack Molenaar and former Councilman Kevin Boris.
