SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Five hundred local residents ran in the second annual Patrick's Downtown Race to Summer 5K on Thursday evening in Scotch Plains, including Mayor Al Smith, long-time building official Bob LaCosta and Margaret Heisey for a fun night. The event was organized by Deputy Mayor Llewellyn Jones.

Brian Trembley, 29, of Hoboken won the race while clocking at an official time of 17:13. Last year, he placed second in the race. Melissa Cerimele of Westfield had the best time for women runners with an official time of 19:32. The fastest time for a Scotch Plains runner was logged by 50-year-old resident John Bretz, who clocked in at an official time of 19:50 while placing first in his age group.

Following the race, runners celebrated with their friends and family on the Alan Augustine Village Green, where they enjoyed live music by The Neighbors band as well as a free BBQ and cold beer provided by Stage House Tavern.
