SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- With Hurricane Joaquin safely out to sea, the skies cleared up for the annual Scotch Plains Day celebration on Park Ave. in downtown Scotch Plains. 

The event included food, rides, a painted pumpkin breast cancer fundraiser, a ravioli-eating contest, and politicking, as Election Day is less than a month away.

Making the rounds among the crowd were: Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi, Scotch Plains Township Manager Al Mirabella, Union County Freeholder Chair Mohamed S. Jalloh, Vice Chair Bruce H. Bergen, Mayor Kevin Glover, Council Members Rose Checchio, John Del Sordi, and Llewellyn Jones, NJ General Assembly candidates Bo Vastine and Rich Fortunato, and others.
