SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood ice hockey team held Senior Night at Warinanco Park Ice Rink as they hosted Woodbridge High School. In a game that ended 6-4 in favor of their opponents, the Raiders proudly honored each of their six seniors and two senior statisticians.

During the recognition ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 23, varsity coach Matt Gunther gave his thoughts on each of his graduating players.

Vincent Cucci, No. 10: "This senior came back to us last year from a private school, and has contributed drastically to our team's success. His presence on the ice during power plays, and holding together his forward line has really been a key factor for our team gaining offensive pressure winning games. We congratulate Vince and Christine on their son."

Nick Tittanegro, No. 6: "This senior played for us as a freshman, and came back to us his senior year. Hockey may be his runner up sport behind soccer, but you wouldn’t be able to tell based on his work ethic and talent. We are elated to have this individual on our team this year and we congratulate Anthony and Johanna on their son."

Joseph Decker, No. 27: "Our next senior is a 4 year varsity athlete. As a freshman he was the fastest skater on our team, and he continues to excel in being one of our most dependable players and defenseman on our team. We are glad to have him healthy and back on the roster for today's game. We congratulate Brian and Gloria on their son."

Lucas Mackey "C", No. 17: "Ever since this current senior was in middle school, I have been impressed with his slap shot. He really knows how to rocket a shot. A predominant forward willing to drop back to defense to help out our team where needed, this athlete has really proved himself to be a great leader on this team. We congratulate Brian and Marla on their son."

Paul Harris "C", No. 30: "Over the past four years, this senior goaltender has progressed into an amazing goaltender. His poise on the ice, and his dedication to the sport is truly admirable. He has proved himself time and time again as he always stands on his head and secures big wins for our team. We congratulate Paul and Debbie on their son."

William Mauer "C", No. 15: "This four-year varsity player’s character mirrors that of great leaders. Ever since he was a freshman, we have watched him put his blood, sweat, and tears into this program. He truly holds what it means to be a great athlete, teammate, and captain. Congratulations to Bill and Michelle on their son."

Jade Glassman: "This senior statistician joined our program as a junior, and we couldn’t be happier to have her as a part of our program. She does an amazing job in ensuring that our statistics are accurate and LEGIBLE. More than just dedicating her entire winter to the ice hockey team, she is tremendously supportive of her peers and coaches. We congratulate Jade Glassman on her senior year."

Jamie Valian: "This senior statistician joined at the same time as our other statistician. Her great knowledge of the game and tracking of the puck has helped to provide our team with insight on where shots are being taken, and determining where our opponent is generating their scoring opportunities. We are immensely grateful to have her be a part of our program, and we congratulate David Valian on his daughter."

Despite a tough loss on this special night, the team is looking forward to their next game on March 2, when they will face the winner of Newark East Side and Bayonne in the semi-finals of the McMullen Cup playoffs after earning a bye for finishing in first place in the division. is Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only free daily local news source.
