SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Nearly 1,000 volunteers across Scotch Plains-Fanwood participated in the 9th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018.

Volunteers of all ages were involved in various activities in the community, including providing food to the hungry and sending Valentine's cards to U.S. troops serving overseas.

"Today I had the honor of running, with my two amazing co-chairs, Amanda Barnett and Courtney Agnello, -- and lots of other great people -- our 9th annual Scotch Plains Fanwood MLK Day of Service," said event co-chair Michelle Abraham. "We filled almost 1,000 volunteer spots, and it was a true joy to see our diverse community volunteer together."
