CLARK, NJ - A house fire at 10 Harrison Street in Clark sent firefighters into action in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to Clark Fire Chief Frank Cerasa, when crews arrived at the home at approximately 3:30 a.m., the interior rear end of the first floor was heavily engulfed in flames and working its way to the second story. Five residents of the multi-family home evacuated before the Clark Fire Department arrived. No residents or firefighters were injured during the incident; however a family dog died at the scene according to Cerasa.

Crews reported heavy smoke conditions in the area and said the fire had extended to the roof on the rear of the home as they got underway. Clark Fire Department had three engines and a ladder truck at the scene. Approximately two dozen firefighters worked the scene operating equipment and five attack lines in the building and aggressively containing and then extinguishing the fire, Cerasa said.
