SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The mayors of Scotch Plains and Fanwood today both updated residents of local COVID-19 cases, and the news was predominantly positive.

According to Mayor Al Smith, Scotch Plains's number of new positive reported COVID-19 cases remains low, although it may be trending up a bit with three new cases today (not shown on the accompanying chart).

"Most importantly, despite the new cases, there has not been a death in Scotch Plains from the virus in approximately 2 months," said Mayor Smith. "Let's continue to follow the rules of self-distancing, wearing a mask as appropriate and self-quarantining when returning from one of the 32 or so states designated by the governor as hot spots."

"The Westfield Regional Health Department has informed us that we had one COVID positive case this week, and that individual has since been re-tested, with a negative result," reported Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. "Our current case count remains at 113. These numbers are testimony to your effective embrace of the rules governing social distancing. Thank you all for honoring your civic responsibility to protect the community when possible."
