Scotch Plains and Fanwood Police Host National Night Out Celebrations on Tues., Aug. 1

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Police Department, Rescue Squad, Fire Department and Union County SWAT Team will host National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Alan Augustine Village Green adjacent to the Municipal Building.

Community members are invited to participate in police demonstrations, fingerprinting, inflatable slides & castles, balloon animals, and food with the town's first responders. Popular local band The Broadcasters will provide live music on the summer stage. The event is presented by K-9 Resorts and The Espeland Group at Allstate Insurance. 

The Borough of Fanwood and the Fanwood Police Department will host National Night Out at La Grande Park beginning at 7:00 p.m. The free event features a variety of games, food, a dunk tank, bouncy houses and more for Fanwood residents to enjoy.

National Night Out was established in 1984 with funding from the U.S. Department of Justice. It was developed as a crime prevention program that emphasizes building a partnership between the police and the community through a multitude of local events. These include block parties, cookouts, parades, contests, youth activities, and seminars. National Night Out participation has increased from 2.5 million people in 400 communities in year one to more than 32 million people in 9,530 communities.
