SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Council and Mayor Al Smith recognized the outstanding hockey achievements of Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS senior Jared Figueroa, who ended his career with more than 100 goals and 100 assists.

Figueroa's athletic abilities have earned him recognition and elite awards. The Raiders center/forward was named his high school team's MVP for three years and was selected to the All County Team for three years. He notched his 100 career point as a junior and scored 100 career goals as a senior, thereby becoming the first Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School to reach the 100 career goal mark. In honor of this accomplishment, Figueroa’s name and stats will be hung on a banner in the high school gymnasium.

While playing for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Figueroa was asked to play for the Florida Eels (USP3) junior hockey club, for whom he played 14 games while scoring four goals and seven assists. The club's GM Frank Scarpaci recently announced that the 5’10,” 170 lb. Figueroa will return to the Florida Junior Eels next season.

The Florida Eels Junior program was formed to meet the needs of hockey players who wanted to further their skills in preparation for college or pro hockey. The Eels have since established itself as an excellent quality junior hockey program, with many of its players realizing success at advanced levels of play.
