SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - One township council member is holding out for a bigger structure if Brookside Park in Scotch Plains is to have a new pavilion.

Scotch Plains Township Councilwoman Colleen Gialanella voted against a resolution authorizing $46,272 for purchase of a pavilion for Brookside Park from Maturano Recreation Company. At Tuesday night's council meeting, Gialanella said that, due to the amount of groups using the park, she would like to see a more substantial structure erected.

She also agreed with resident Ed Minolt that the silt around the park pond should be cleared, and added that a fence should be erected around the pond.
Minolt said improvements to the pond also would help alleviate flooding in the area of West Broad Street.
Gialanella also told Minolt that, in addition, he should bring his concerns about the park up at the next Recreation Commission meeting.
