SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- With pandemic here and so many families and businesses in need, a number of local teenagers are finding ways to help our community.  One such project is the “contactless” food drop off at IHM food pantry, organized by Benjamin Root, a junior at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

Ben coordinated with IHM's Geraldine Keogh to take an already established community service and add a twist in order to boost donations. The twist was to add contactless drop-off of food and toiletries on both the Saturday before and that Sunday. Permissions were set up, and the church was in full support.

To accomplish this he first reached out to the juniors on his lacrosse team. Jack Pares was the first to volunteer.  Many of these athletes, like Root, play multiple sports. Soon thereafter, his wrestling and football teammates have joined the effort.
