SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Junior attackman Mikey Kloepfer scored four goals, Chase Alber added three, and Matt Power and Sandro Frias chipped in two each, as Scotch Plains-Fanwood defeated Millburn, 13-5, in the first ever home night lacrosse game held under the lights at Shemme Wexler Field.
Jake Monroy and Timmy Paprocki also contributed goals. Sophomore Ethan Filler won 12 of the 21 faceoffs he took. Sam Oross made five saves and let in two goals, and Alexander Lo finished up the game. It was a dominant performance for the Raiders, who at one point led 10-1.
"I'm so proud of our guys last night -- a 13-5 win to start the season. The boys worked hard and got the job done," said boys lacrosse Coach Nick Miceli.
Millburn's Ethan Shapiro led his team's offense with two goals and an assist. Connor Davisson, Brandon Merve, and Isaac Lenner each contributed goals in the losing cause. Griffin Geller had a tough night in goal for Millburn, but still made 10 saves against the relentless Raiders attack.
Raiders Coach Miceli was thrilled to come up with a win under the lights.
"It's a great experience for the kids, for the community and the entire program. It was a lot of fun," he said. "I think we have a lot of potential, and it's now a matter of just put it all together. I think we really clicked on that first half."
The Raiders next game will be this Saturday at home against Morristown at 11:00 a.m. Before the game, there will be a Senior Day recognition ceremony.
