SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- After a year-long hiatus from the court, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys volleyball coach Brock Hor and his team -- Led Dan Sicinski, Tony Ngumah, Nick Rayan, David Farin, and Nate Sta Rosa -- are champing at the bit to get the season going.

“I'm very excited for this team this year, we only have two returning players from the last championship team from two seasons ago, but we have added some dynamic players that would have played Varsity in our lost season last year,” said Coach Hor. “On top of that, some players that would have been on JV last year have moved up and are looking better than I have ever seen them before.”

The team lost three-time captain Braedon Cooke to graduation; he had been starting varsity since his sophomore year. Nick Schmidt and Dan Sicnski would have been crucial for the boys in defending the County Title and head further into states, but unfortunately they lost their first varsity season to COVID. Coach Hor loves what he sees in Amir Johnson, Aidan Heifetz, and Zach Chung, citing they all would have pushed last year’s JV team to new heights. He also expects Tim Ennis to be a dynamic player for years to come.

Team captains Nate Sta Rosa, Nick Schmidt, Tony Ngumah, and Dan Sicinski will all play key roles on the court this season. Coach Hor also expect a lot of strong play from Amir Johnson, Aidan Heifetz, Zach Chung and Tim Ennis.

“We're going to be fun to watch. My past teams all came up together and had a very close bond. This group of players are coming from all different directions, but play with a passion I haven't seen in a while,” says Hor. “I came into last season expecting to rebuild, but after the tryout and seeing them practice in the limited time we had, I changed my mind to believing that we could contend. After one year back, I think this may be the most excited to see what they can do. I'll say it again; we will be fun to watch.”
